New semester, new commitments !

Okay, now you are back from break refreshed and ready to start again, with new spring air, and a spring in your step as you walk toward your summer. The cold and dark days are almost gone and you have new classes, new classmates and new faculty to inspire you. Take a deep breath, a cleansing breath as they say, and begin an anew.
As you breathe, here are two ideas to concentrate on commitment and time management.
Set aside ¬blocks of time to work on different assignments. If you find yourself consistently taking longer to finish assignments in a specific subject, be prepared to set aside additional time and if necessary, seek help from your professor or get assistance. The Writing Center and the Learning Enhancement Center have labs available as a resource for students. If you haven’t been there yet try it; most students find it a terrific resource once they check it out.
Keep breathing now; getting good grades comes down to your level of commitment. All of the effort you put in to school is returned in the form of a degree and top grades. Commitment does not just mean spending your scheduled time on schoolwork; it also means making adjustments to put school first before everything. Really, making time for school events is crucial to your long term success, but when you have a choice directly between a fun social event and a mandatory assignment, the assignment must come first.
Time is the next biggest ingredient in the recipe for getting good grades here at UT. Planning ahead helps you make realistic judgments about the time you have to spend on school. Managing your time keeps you focused on your studies. Your time commitment directly affects your grades. Be prepared to put in as many hours as you need, and you will finish this semester and eventually graduate with a top GPA.
Now breathe again; take it upon yourself to start each day, each class, and each semester anew. Try looking at your school world from different angles and perspectives. Think of it as mental breathing. It may reveal new insights. Breathe in your world. Take an active interest in each new thing you learn; your world expands as your knowledge base does (and maybe your lungs too).

from the Wall Street Journal ...A Degree Drawn in Red Ink  "Most people assume a degree in the arts is no guarantee of riches. Now there is evidence that such graduates also rack up the most student-loan debt.

A Wall Street Journal analysis of new Department of Education data shows that median debt loads at schools specializing in art, music and design average $21,576, which works out to a loan payment of about $248 a month. That is a heavy burden, considering that salaries for graduates of such schools with five or fewer years' experience cluster around $40,000, according to PayScale."
